The controversy surrounding Philadelphia's pop-up beer garden scene doesn't end at the questionable liquor law concerns. Some Philly restaurant and bar owners are angry, claiming that the pop-up gardens steal their already low summer foot traffic. After talking with some of these concerned business owners, I came to realize how they (and other surprising types of businesses) can really take advantage of these popular summer destinations rather than gripe about their existence. With the Spruce Street Harbor Park announcing one more month of endless lines for hammocks and wrist-band beers, I thought, why not share some of the ways businesses surrounding these destinations can take advantage too?

Copy is built into the foundation of everything - websites, tweets and Facebook posts, even in the fine print. Most of the time, we don’t think twice about reading it. But if it’s missing, or if there’s a mistake, that’s when we have a problem.

One process that every new hire encounters is onboarding, the training buzzword of the moment. To put it simply, onboarding is how new employees are socialized into an organization. When done correctly, onboarding can lead to higher productivity and satisfaction in job performance. But, most importantly, it provides a company with a chance to convey its identity to the people who will make it great: its new employees. Getting new hires excited about their jobs and their role within an organization will make for a more rewarding experience for everyone involved!

Postgreen Homes' Folsom Powerhouse development project is located off of Fairmount Avenue and 18th Street, in Francisville Philadelphia. The 31 units are modern, eco-friendly custom home projects that promise an affordable price range for a diverse set of dwellers. But the Philly real estate market has entered a newly competitive, healthy market of buyers who need more than just a few key words and decent "upcoming" location to sell them. Thankfully, Postgreen agreed and gave us the free reign to pre-sell the shit out of their Folsom Powerhouse project.

We've created a new event series #FoundandFund, that is dedicated to growing a platform where female entrepreneurs can create and run successful startups in Philadelphia and beyond. This starts with education, so the first event was focused on "Female Founders Talk Funding" - best practices and advice on how to fund your business, pitch VC's, create compelling decks and more. All in an effort to help women (and anyone for that matter) learn how to successfully fund their businesses.

Have you ever Google searched something and found results that had someone's photo next to the link? This person was designated by Google as an "expert in their field", simply because they learned how to use Google+ authorship code to help search engines find their blog posts and content. We're all sick of About.com, Wikipedia, AskJeeves and these monster content sites taking over search results. I mean how can About.com suddenly be the expert on a huge range of topics from career advice to gardening? Well Google agreed that the domination of search results from these sites was not beneficial for our constant need for information. So they re-programmed their algorithms to seek out thought leaders in their expert industries.

My good friend and I always joke to ourselves that we are arthletes: the rare combination of artist and athlete. Back in the glory days I sported the number seven jersey as a D1 lacrosse player for the Virginia Tech Hokies (GO HOKIES). The challenge of balancing art and athletics was trying (it often felt like I was part of a reality show), but I found that this departure from the typical designer served me well in my quest of becoming a designer in the real world.

We all know that dogs love to please their owners by following commands. “Sit!” “Stay!” “Roll-over!” “Beg!” These commands are never more than a couple words, and their meanings are clear and distinct. Dogs look for commands that are easy to follow, and most will happily follow if there’s a reward involved. This got me wondering, what can we learn about marketing by thinking like a dog?
