I met Cheers Elephant years ago, and have always been intrigued by their music. This four piece band breaks music industry barriers by weaving in a hometown electric feel, with a jumble of harmonies that can easily encourage a melting of the ears. Their sound cannot be compared to any others, yet it feels like it is music that you've been listening to your whole life. With an upcoming tour and a new album scheduled for release, we jumped at the chance to sit down for an interview with Cheers Elephant.

If you’re a Philly foodie, you’ve not lived until you’ve gone Garces. With the recent addition of hot Cira Center eatery JG Domestic, the Garces Group— owned by chef and restaurateur Jose Garces— is seven restaurants strong in Philadelphia. The Chicago-born James Beard Award winner hasn’t stopped growing his now illustrious career since he opened his tapas den Amada in 2005. His cuisines range from trendy bar food to authentic Spanish. However, fans of Amada, Tinto, Distrito, Chifa, Village Whiskey, Garces Trading Company, and JG Domestic rave about a unifying focus on bold flavor, branding, and concepts that raise the bar on Philadelphia's restaurant scene. Now, with the Iron Chef title and arguably Philly’s best burger (the Village Burger at Village Whiskey) under his belt, Garces says that his successes were totally unexpected. With his winning combination of humility, talent, and drive, we think his achievements were a long time coming. Here, At Media takes a closer look at the celebrity chef with Philly’s favorite palate.

An architectural model of the Water Works in Fairmount. Marble busts atop furry white pedestals. A Viennese coffeepot from 1795. These objects once slept in the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s vast storage halls— as do so many brilliant objects owned by the museum and yet to be discovered or gingerly placed into exhibitions. But when the Institute of Contemporary Art asked Philadelphia’s own Virgil Marti to curate a show, he became the liberator of these hidden gems. Now full of new life, the pieces form a complex, ahistorical narrative of the bizarre and the ever-changing. Marti, a renowned conceptual installation artist and sculptor, has taken a break from his own intricate fabrication to curate “Set Pieces,” the fascinating collection of these objects made by artists of the past. At Media gave Marti a buzz to learn about the man and the mind behind this latest, wondrous show at the ICA in University City.
