Transit-Oriented Development Proves That Even the ‘Burbs Can Be Cool
You may have noticed a trend: everyone’s ditching their cars. With more and more people finding value in public transit, and services like Uber, it’s no wonder that owning a car has become a thing of the past.
Enter the almighty Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) – a specific real estate development plan that focuses entirely around ease of access to public transportation.
With David S. Brown’s Metro Centre at Owings Mills, we set about creating a website that would bring to life the benefits of a TOD in a location outside the city. In essence, Metro Centre is a “mini-city” – a microcosm of urban living, contained within a few acres of land in Baltimore County. Owings Mills as an up-and-coming area has seen a boom in development, spurred on thanks in large part to Metro Centre and its direct access to Baltimore through the Metro line.
This all-encompassing hub allows you to live, work, and play in Baltimore’s backyard. Offering amenities from apartments to retail and restaurants, Metro Centre provides everything found in a city, with the convenience of the suburban setting and space. With a Wegmans next door, and many more large-box retailers located in Owings Mills, the suburbs can start offering what most cities can’t with their limited space.
From a business perspective, large companies are now able to find the space they need to expand in the brand new office spaces at Metro Centre. With open floor plans, environmentally sustainable designs, and close proximity to all of the amenities Owings Mills has to offer, large corporations are free to take advantage of a “blank canvas” waiting to be filled.
So, while a lot of focus and attention has been on urban centers like Baltimore, Philadelphia, or DC, it’s important to take a look at what’s happening right outside those bubbles. Owings Mills is not your parents’ suburb. It’s an economical revolution. That’s why we couldn’t be more excited to watch the community grow and can’t wait to see what new opportunities it will bring to the area.
